Two New Programs This Month,

CPTV’s weekly magazine series returns with two special programs in October. All Things Connecticut: 50th Anniversary Special premieres on Friday, October 12 at 8:30 p.m. and Friday, October 19 at 8:30 p.m. on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV). In addition to a collection of brand new segments from around the state, these new episodes also feature a fond look back at pivotal moments in CPTV’s half century of programming

On Friday, October 12 at 8:30 p.m., host Matt Roberts strolls down memory lane as he takes a look back at the children’s series Barney and Friends, co-produced by CPTV and the Lyons Group beginning in 1992. He also remembers Mundo Real, CPTV’s situation comedy/drama about a Puerto Rican family living in an urban barrio on the mainland, which became the first Spanish-English bilingual television series produced for American television.

Also on this edition of All Things Connecticut, Christina DeFranco provides the latest buzz on the decrease in Connecticut’s bee population. Ed Wierzbicki spotlights Music Haven, a young New Haven-based quartet that’s working to build a vibrant urban community through performance and free music education. Dominic Laird takes a look at the popularity of yoga and visits the studios of West Hartford Yoga.

On the second All Things Connecticut: CPTV 50th Anniversary Special premiering Friday, October 19, the programprofiles a group of filmmakers in Brookfield working to break down social barriers for the developmentally disabled in the “Power of Giving.” In the “Treading Lightly” segment, Christina DeFranco visits a hospital which is making healthy food a priority; the cafe is even becoming a community hotspot. Ed Wierzbicki introduces us to Charles Erickson, theater photographer extraordinaire in “Spotlight on the Arts” and Dominic Laird visits one of the largest archery training centers in the nation, located in Manchester, Connecticut.

Both editions of the All Things Connecticut: CPTV 50th Anniversary Special include new “Power of Giving” segments, which show how people in Connecticut are making a difference through their charitable work. “Power of Giving” segments are a CPTV production in partnership with our founding partner, Newman's Own Foundation.
