Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) Hires James Cutie as Its New Network Content Director

Release Date: 04/01/2013

HARTFORD, Conn. (April 2, 2013) – The Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) – parent company to Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and WNPR/Connecticut Public Radio – has hired James A. Cutie as its Network Content Director. Cutie, who will begin his new position on April 22, brings with him 35 years of experience in general management, marketing, journalism and fundraising in both traditional and online media. His addition to the CPBN team coincides with the Network’s plans to launch a new online news service.

The online news industry is one with which Cutie is very familiar; his most recent role was as the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the online news site The Connecticut Mirror, a role he held since The Mirror’s founding in 2009. In this capacity, Cutie developed a relationship with CPBN, as CPBN not only shares its Hartford headquarters with the offices of The Mirror, but has formed a partnership with the organization through which The Mirror and WNPR share news stories.

Prior to serving at The Mirror, Cutie acted as Managing Director at Plum Capital LLC, a Philadelphia-based venture capital firm, and as the Co-Founder, President and CEO of Press Point, Inc., a New York-based company that digitally distributed prestigious publications from around the world.

Cutie was also employed by The New York Times Company, working his way up to President and CEO of The Times’ Information Services Group, during which time he founded the original online division of The Times and created new media products in partnership with Time Warner, Viacom and CBS, among other accomplishments.

“I’m excited that Jim will be joining our dedicated and award-winning team,” said Dean Orton, Chief Operating Officer of CPBN. “This new position represents a larger strategic shift underway within our Network to significantly advance our mission of providing exciting new and unique content to Connecticut and the nation.”
